Learning & Living the Appalachian Story

Degree/Minor Task Force

The School of Arts and Letters has been working closely with the Georgia Appalachian Studies Center in a number of ways. A task force will be convened this fall to explore and propose a program focused on Appalachian studies. This task force will explore similar degree and minor programs in the country, while considering areas of focus appropriate for NGCSU.

It is envisioned that the Center’s role in experiential learning will increase and expand through courses with credit. By administering a degree or minor in Appalachian studies, the Georgia Appalachian Studies Center will sustain itself through an annual budget and staff support.

The School of Arts and Letters intends to partner with the Georgia Appalachian Studies Center to create a program that will continue the Center, benefitting our students, the University, and the community.
