Antonia inducted to Ranger Hall of Fame
Keith Antonia, director of cadet admissions, was one of 11 former U.S. Army Rangers who was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame on Aug. 5. Antonia was selected for his outstanding service to the U.S. Army and the Ranger community during his 20-year military career.

Staff Council maps year ahead
The 2009-2010 Staff Council met July 24 for its annual planning retreat, during which President David Potter and Mac McConnell, vice president of business and finance, spoke about the current and future budgetary challenges facing North Georgia.

Regents approve budget reduction plans and mandatory furloughs

The Board of Regents, at its meeting on Aug. 12, approved measures to meet ongoing budget reductions, including employee furloughs and changes to employee health benefit plans. Separately from the request for new dollars, the board also approved the Fiscal Year 2011 budget request for the University System of Georgia (USG) that includes dollars to support new students as well as the regents' strategic thrust to expand medical education. The budget request totals $2.2 billion, a 6.8 percent increase, or $140.7 million, over the original FY 2010 base budget of $2.08 billion.

Groups partner for Appalachian region

Photo of Dr. Linda Roberts-Betsch welcoming the members of the Appalachian Regional Commission at its meeting on campus in July.The Appalachian Studies Association and the Appalachian Regional Commission are the two largest organizations in the America that focus solely on issues related to the Appalachia. Representatives of the two groups met on the North Georgia campus in July and formally acknowledged each other's service in the Appalachian region and to its constituents by signing a memorandum of understanding, signifying a readiness to collaborate and to share news, research, and information.
