The North Georgia Summer Institute for Transient Cadets

Welcome!  This is the Web Site for the North Georgia Summer Institute for Strategic Language and Culture for Transient Cadets!

Important Note!  This web site is designed specifically for ROTC Cadets from colleges and universities other than North Georgia College & State University.  If you want to study elementary Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French, or Spanish this summer, you are in the right place.

If you are a prospective Cadet or current Cadet at North Georgia, please go to:

WHAT IS THE NORTH GEORGIA SUMMER INSTITUTE?

The institute seeks to immerse selected ROTC Cadets and other students in specially designed academic and experiential programs intended to provide a solid professional foundation for  military, federal public service, international business, or science professions careers.

The Summer Institute consists of two separate modules that are designed to be academically challenging, fun and thoroughly rewarding.  As an ROTC Cadet from another college or university, you are invited to participate in Module I of the Summer Institute which is the Strategic Language and Culture Module.  You will learn either Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, or French. You will live on campus.  Your classmates will be fellow Cadets and other students who have similar interests.

You will accelerate your language learning through an intensive total immersion program of study.  The learning activities are designed to be fun and engaging within the context of learning the language through substantial interaction between the students and the native-speaking faculty and teaching assistants.  In addition to classroom instruction, you will enjoy a number of extra-curricular activities related to the language and culture.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

The cost of the program for Summer 2009 was $2,747.  This included tuition and fees ($1,589), room and meals ($968), and a program fee ($190). Costs will be a little higher for Summer 2010. There are three scholarship or tuition assistance programs available for cadets who participate:

(1) The North Georgia College & State University GO Scholarship. There are scholarships available to pay for room and meals. These scholarships are available to North Georgia current and prospective Cadets and to transient Cadets and midshipmen from other institutions. Cadets must take the Arabic, Chinese or Russian Module. To apply for the scholarship, please contact Mr. Keith Antonia at (706) 867-2712 or email kantonia@ngcsu.edu.

(2) The Army ROTC Scholarship. Cadets who are already Army ROTC Scholarship recipients may use the Army ROTC Scholarship to pay for their tuition, fees, and books for Arabic or Chinese. You must contact the office of your Professor of Military Science.

(3) Any Cadet who is also enlisted in the National Guard or Army, Navy or Air Force Reserve may request tuition assistance as they normally would for any other semester of college.

Also, if you are a contracted Army ROTC Cadet, talk to your Professor of Military Science about applying for Critical Language Incentive Pay for Arabic or Chinese (there is no incentive pay for the Russian Module).
