ABOUT THE GEORGIA CHAPTER OF ASPA

          The Georgia Chapter of ASPA serves ASPA members in the Atlanta metropolitan area and most of Northeast, Northwest, and West Georgia.  It publishes an online chapter newsletter, The Georgia Public Administrator.  In June 1996, shortly before the arrival of the Olympic Games, the Georgia Chapter of ASPA hosted the 1996 annual conference of ASPA.  Since 1999, the chapter has sponsored the annual Georgia Public Administration Academic Conference.

          The chapter organizes meetings with speakers as well as social events.

The Georgia Chapter of ASPA is sponsoring its 12th annual Georgia Public Administration Academic Conference on Friday, March 26, 2010, at Kennesaw State University.

Location:  Kennesaw State University

Schedule:

            Location of Reception and Panels:  Kennesaw State University Center.
            11:30 a.m. -- Reception
                   The chapter will host a luncheon (12 noon) -- no charge to members and students.  However, it is necessary for those who intend to have lunch to notify President Bill Baker ( wbaker@Kennesaw.edu ) by Friday, March 19, at 5 p.m.
             12 noon -- Plenary Session

                    Keynote speaker:  Georgia Commissioner of Labor Michael L. Thurmond

 

             Panels:
             12:45-2 p.m. -- Panels 1A and 1B
             2:15-3:30 p.m. -- Panels 2A and 2B
             3:45-5 p.m. -- Panels 3A and 3B

Location of Annual Meeting:  Social Science Building (#22), 5th-floor, in the Dean's Suite.
             6-7:30 p.m. -- Annual (Dinner) Meeting (includes elections of officers for 2010-2011 and presentation of the Public Administrator of the Year Award).

Participants who presented papers during the afternoon panels will receive a Georgia Chapter T-shirt as a gift from the chapter if they are in attendance at the annual meeting.

Important:  Meals must be reserved in advance with a payment of $15.  Make checks payable to "Georgia Chapter - ASPA."  Send a note, identify the name or names of attendees, and payment to Dr. Barry D. Friedman, NGCSU Political Science, 82 College Circle, Dahlonega, Ga.   30597-1001; they must be received by Monday, March 22.  (Mail reservation by Thursday, March 18, if possible.)  It is not necessary to pay for a meal to attend the annual meeting; one can attend without having dinner.

Proposals to Present Papers:  President William E. "Bill" Baker is the program chairman for the conference.  To propose making a presentation, an applicant should submit a completed paper, a draft of a paper, or an abstract to Dr. Baker, preferably as a Microsoft Word document, as an attachment to an E-mail message to wbaker@Kennesaw.edu .  The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 5, 2010.  (Presenters of papers will receive a certificate attesting to their presentation of a research paper at the conference.)

     Here are the directions to the Kennesaw State University Center:  For Mapquest, the address is Kennesaw State University Center, 3333 George Busbee Drive, Kennesaw, Ga.   30144.  Please note that this location is not on the main campus of KSU.  The facility has convenient, ample parking.  If you are driving north from Atlanta on Interstate 75, take Exit 271; take a right at the light and then another right (you will see a Cracker Barrel Restaurant).  Drive past the Best Western Hotel and take another right (about 1000 feet), which is the entrance to the KSU Center.  Turn left, park near the South Entrance, and enter at that entrance.
