Due to the rising cost of health insurance, the Board of Regents has decided to begin focusing on more cost-effective network-based and consumer-driven health programs. Rather than eliminate the Indemnity Plan, the Board of Regents has decided to place a limit on the employer contribution towards the total Indemnity premium.

Beginning 1/1/2009, the employer contribution under the Indemnity Plan will be reduced to an amount equal to the employer contribution offered under the comparable PPO coverage. Due to these changes the employee portion of the Indemnity premium will essentially double for 2009. We strongly recommend that current Indemnity Plan members consider moving to the PPO plan to take full advantage of the considerably lower monthly premiums.

The PPO Plan will begin utilizing a more comprehensive provider network as of 1/1/2009. Under this new PPO Georgia network, approximately 93% of the Georgia claims filed under the Indemnity plan during all of 2007 would have been covered as PPO in-network charges.
