NGCSU students can use their federal and state
financial aid, including the HOPE scholarship, for study
abroad. We encourage all of our students to set-up an
appointment with the
Financial Aid Office to discuss their financial
needs. There are also several other sources to fund your
study abroad experience. The key is to plan ahead and
research all the different study abroad scholarships
available.
NGCSU Study Abroad Scholarships
Hope Scholarship
If you are attending a NGCSU program, you will be able to
apply your HOPE scholarship towards the tuition portion of
the program cost. In order to do this, please set-up an
appointment with the NGCSU Financial Aid Office and complete
the appropriate forms.
Leadership Scholarship
This scholarships is offered to any students planning to
travel outside of Canada or Western Europe. The committee
will base their decision not only in your leadership
activities, but also in financial need and academic
performance. The application deadline for this scholarship
is February 15th for Fall and Summer Programs, and November
15th for Spring Programs. You can download an application

STARS Scholarship
The STudents Abroad with Regents Support program is one
of the best ways to get money for your study abroad program.
Awards vary from $500-1,000 and you will work from 48-96
hours, respectively. This is a stress free program were you
can pick your own work hours. You will get your money in
bi-weekly checks, because it is paid by the hour. To
qualify, you have to be admitted into an approved Study
Abroad Program. To apply, please stop by the Center for
Global Engagement at 343 West Main Hall.
Other Study Abroad Scholarships
For students who are Federal Pell Grant recipients only.
The Gilman program awards scholarships of up to $5,000 for
students participating in a study abroad program with a
duration of at least 28 days in one country. There is also an
extra $3,000 award for students who are studying critical
languages. Students going on Summer programs do not qualify.
An honor society that is sponsoring a Study Abroad Grant
competition. The program is designed to help support
undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in
their academic fields by studying abroad. This grant is
offered to students with at least 30 hours and a GPA of 3.5
or higher, your study abroad program begins between May 1,
2009 and June 30, 2010 and you have at least two semesters
left at your home institution after the completion of your
study abroad program; The application deadline for this
grant is February 1, 2009. See website for application.
Boren Scholarships provide American undergraduate
students with the resources and encouragement they need to
acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world
critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange
for their commitment to seek work in the federal government.
Canada and Western Europe programs are excluded. The maximum
amounts for scholarships awarded are $10,000 for a semester
and $20,000 for a full academic year. The deadline for this
scholarship program is February 1st.
Boren Fellowships provide American graduate students,
both at the master's and the doctoral level, with the
resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and
experiences in areas of the world critical to the future
security of our nation, in exchange for their commitment to
seek work in the federal government.
The Language Flagship offers a limited number of
fellowships to qualified American students interested in
receiving full financial support to participate in one of
the Flagship Programs in Arabic, Central Asian Turkic
languages, Korean, Mandarin, Persian, and Russian.
This program offers 525 scholarships for intensive summer
language institutes overseas in eleven critical need foreign
languages for summer 2009. The CLS Program provides seven to
ten week group-based intensive language instruction and
extensive cultural enrichment experiences held overseas at
the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels for U.S.
citizen undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students. All
program costs are covered for participants.
Students wishing to pursue study at one of the German or
French ISEP member institutions during the second semester
of the 2009-2010 academic year. This scholarship is to
encourage students with a genuine interest in study abroad
to apply for a placement in France or Germany. The target
audience for these scholarships is students wishing to
pursue study at one of the German or French ISEP member
institutions. The award criteria for the scholarships
include academic background, desire to improve language
ability, and genuine financial need.
Two $500 scholarships from STA Travel are available each
academic year to ISEP students whose home university is
located in the USA for roundtrip travel from the United
States to their program destination.
Study Abroad Scholarships for Cadets
Olmsted Scholarship
In order to qualify, you should be a NGCSU commissioning
cadet. The Military Department will provide an Order of
Merit List (OML) every year for cadets worthy of receiving
this scholarship. The scholarship will cover the program
costs, without tuition, for the study abroad experience.
Depending on your place in the OML list you can get full
funding or partial funding for your program.
Study Abroad Scholarship Database
This database allows you to search by your country of
destination or field of study to find study abroad funding
information. The database offers information on study abroad
scholarships, fellowships, and grants.
