North Georgia President David Potter named to Who's Who
in Education

Dahlonega, Ga. (June 2, 2009) - David L. Potter, president of North Georgia College & State University, has been named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle's Who's Who in Education list. The second annual listing includes education leaders who are shaping Georgia's K-12 and higher education systems to enhance skill levels, quality of life and economic development in the state. Potter was recognized for his efforts to internationalize the curriculum and campus at North Georgia to prepare students for work and service in a global economy.

Potter became the 16th president of North Georgia College & State University in 2005. Before coming to North Georgia, Potter served as the chief executive officer for the Board of Trustees overseeing the eight public universities in Mississippi since 2003. Prior to his position with the state commission, Potter served as president of Delta State University, in Cleveland, Miss.

Previously, he held a number of teaching and administrative positions at George Mason University, in Fairfax, Va., including provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, vice president and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, vice president for executive affairs, executive assistant to the president, and adjunct faculty in the department of sociology and anthropology.

He earned his B.A. cum laude in history from Amherst College, in Mass., and both his M.A. and Ph.D. in social science from Syracuse University.
