The fourteenth annual NGCSU Honors Academic Conference is on the afternoons of Tuesday, April 7th, and Wednesday, April 8th, 2009. The conference is a showcase for our best student work.

Here are the conference guidelines (subject to change):

  1. Paper Selection. The faculty in each discipline should select the best research paper completed during the academic year (which includes last Spring and Summer semesters, and this Fall semester). Each major should notify both the Honors Conference Committee, and the relevant dean, of their paper selection and the faculty supervisor (see below) by February 27th .
  2. Preparation, Test Run, and Conference Format. The faculty supervisor should assist in preparing the presentation of the paper. Presentations may utilize any array of appropriate techniques. Use of multiple media, and/or audience participation is especially encouraged. The presentation should be both dignified and scholarly, as well as fun and interesting. Faculty supervisors should take steps to devise a format that alleviates the pressure on a likely nervous student presenter. Submit the format to the Honors Day Committee, with a list of needed presentation materials by early April (date TBA) .
We will use the main sites (subject to availability) for a 'dress rehearsal' of presentations on the afternoon before the first day of the conference. This will help us finalize preparations, and help insure students are familiar with the conference environment and format.
The panels will consist of the student presentations, related activities hosted by relevant honor and/or professional societies.
  3. Attendance. Because of the long-term value to the college of this conference, attendance is always critical. Faculty are encouraged to work attendance of the conference into their course requirements in some way.
  4. Special Panels and Activities. In addition to the main academic panels, departments and groups (honor societies, professional organizations, and others) are encouraged to conduct special panels or activities during the Honors Conference. Past activities include poster sessions, art displays, open rehearsals, literary readings, drill field encampments and discipline-specific panels. Those who organize special panels or activities are responsible for the arrangements (e.g., room reservations). Search for open slots on the Summary Schedule page. Please contact the Honors Conference Co-ordinator (Carl Cavalli, ccavalli@ngcsu.edu) and/or the relevant Committee member about special panels or activities.
