arngWhy the Georgia Army National Guard?

The history of the National Guard goes back more than 360 years - before there was a "United States of America." In the face of danger, the farmers, doctors, and blacksmiths of the Massachusetts Bay Colony banded together to protect their families and property. The concept of the citizen-soldier was born. And ever since, citizen-soldiers have helped write the history of America.

Today, more than 350,000 men and women continue the tradition of the citizen-soldier as members of the Army National Guard. Peace... Disaster... Conflict... the Georgia National Guard is there. No matter the situation, you can always count on the Guard to be there for the citizens of the state and nation. Proud of their dual mission, the guard serves the Governor during peace, disaster, and local civil unrest; while in time of conflict, the Guard serves the President.
