The first task of our Vista 8 migration is to identify existing Vista 3 sections that need to be moved to Vista 8. The steps below will help you identify those sections you want migrated and instructions for contacting Web Services to request that they be moved. Step 1. Look at all your old sections in Vista 3.

Log into Vista 3 and select old sections that you want to migrate over to Vista 8. Help us determine if they meet the criteria for migration:

• Would you like to update your content? - Rebuild
• Would you like to make extensive use of new tools? - Rebuild
• Does your section contain epack access codes? - Rebuild
• Is your section larger than 2GB? - Rebuild
• Does your section contain large PowerPoint files with transitions, animations, audio, large graphics or pictures? - Rebuild
• Does your section have video files? - Rebuild
• Does your section contain four or more levels of subfolders in the File Manager? - Rebuild

If your sections to not have any of the elements listed above, congratulations! We can easily migrate your section.

Step 2. What if I have some of the elements above in my section? Can I still migrate?

Web Services is helping faculty identify items in their sections that could be problematic. For example, PowerPoints and videos could be removed from the file manager first and then migrate the section. There may be a way to adjust the section first and then migrate the rest of the content. Be sure to contact us first if you have concerns about your content.

Step 3. Submit your sections using the Section Migration Request Form?

Once you have determined which sections from previous semesters that you want migrated, Use this form to submit your request to Web services. You may choose section from Spring 2005 through Fall 2008. If your enrollment has been removed from a section you need access to, e-mail jmchan@ngcsu.edu.
NOTE: List ONLY those sections that are scheduled to be taught Fall 2009.

Step 4. How long will it take my section to migrate?

The SMART tool allows us to migrate up to 15 sections at a time. We then wait 48 hours to see if any of the migration attempts failed. Once your section has successfully migrated, it will sit in the restored area so you can choose it to use for future sections.

Step 5. What do I do after the sections are migrated?

Once your sections are migrated and restored in Vista 8, you will be able to choose them as an option for assigning to your new empty Fall sections. A video showing this process will be available soon.

Step 6. When can we use Vista 8?

At this writing (08 APR 09), we are waiting for OIIT to finish loading the faculty IDs and Fall sections. Once we know your IDs are in Vista 8, we will give you access to start building your fall sections.
