Please Review all of this information Carefully!

North Georgia offers the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program to prepare graduates to sit for nursing boards and become registered nurses (RN) and enter the healthcare work force as entry level professionals. The ASN Program accepts students once a year to begin in the fall semester. The application process and deadline occurs during the calendar year prior to the fall semester that students wish to start the program (e.g. deadline for fall 2010 is Dec. 2009). The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) degree is available for RNs wanting to continue their education at North Georgia.

The ASN Program is offered on the North Georgia main campus in Dahlonega, Gainesville College campus, and Lanier Tech/Forsyth Co. Campus - day classes only.  Classes meet at all sites at the same time and interact live via videoconferencing. While a professor is located at each site to handle questions within the classrooms, lectures are shared among all the sites. Students at all sites can interact with each and the teaching professor in live discussions using this technology. In addition to videoconference lectures and lab/clinical practice hours; on-line and simulation activities are used to enhance the learning process. The ASN program is designed for two year completion, but may be taken at a part time pace with program coordinator approval.

The program features a curriculum for students who are highly motivated, self directed adult learners, with the support of faculty that care about students and work to enhance individual learning. Upon completion of this program of study, graduates have had the opportunity to attain the knowledge and skills to practice in acute care, long term care and community health settings.  An optional Leadership Concentration is available for students who would like to have that additional designation upon graduation.

The Georgia Board of Nursing has approved this program and it is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.  North Georgia is a unit of the University System of Georgia. Students may take core curriculum courses either prior to or during the nursing sequence. These courses may be taken at other academic institutions and transferred to North Georgia.

Inquiries regarding this program should be directed to Ms. Margaret Largent at mplargent@ngcsu.edu or 706-864-1930. Upon receipt of nursing application, confirmation will be sent with additional guidelines for nursing admission consideration.
