Application Process
Students interested in pursing a “Concentration in Leadership” in the ASN program will submit a letter of intent to the Leadership Minor Advisor for the School of Science and Health Professions during the first semester of their first year in the ASN Program. The letter should identify what leadership means to the student and why they are committed to their leadership development. The Leadership Minor Advisor for the School of Science and Health Professions will work in collaboration with the Leadership Minor Advisory Council to approve students for the ASN “Concentration in Leadership” program of study.
Program of Study and Requirements
Students must complete PSYC 1030 – Principles of Leadership or PSYC 1001 – Foundations of Leadership prior to or during the first year of the ASN program with a grade of B or better.
Students must complete all four Professionalism in Nursing/leadership electives with a grade of B or better – NURS 1200, 1205, 1210 & 1220 (1 semester hour each)
Students must maintain a Leadership Portfolio in include the following:
• Summary of Service Learning activities for both years
• Copy of NURS 2160 – Leadership paper
• Copy of NURS 2140 – Quality improvement paper
• Copy of activity/proposal documentation forms from NURS 1200, 1205, 1210 & 1220
Exit Requirements
One month prior to the time of graduation the student will submit the following to the Leadership Minor Advisor for the School of Science and Health Professions:
• Leadership Portfolio
• Short essay that captures the student’s view of leadership and how they plan to use what they have gained from this program of study as they enter the nursing profession
The Leadership Minor Advisor for the School of Science and Health Professions will work in collaboration with the Department Head to approve students to graduate with a “Concentration in Leadership” from the ASN program. The list of approved students will be given to the Registrar.
The Leadership Concentration designation will be on the ASN student transcript.
